Sewing Projects

I know I get inspired by seeing what others make and how they use patterns, so as we get them, we will be posting customers sewing projects. When you are finished with your project, send us an email with the sewing pattern company, pattern number and some good clear photos of the garment either on a dress maker dummy or on a model (with their permission to post their picture) and the name and location where you are at. No last names or street addresses will be published.

Simplicity Pattern 2615

I love to sew, but I know I'm not the best seamstress so letting you all see that you don't have to be scared to post here! This is a dress that I made for myself. It had everything I needed or perhaps I shouldn't say it didn't have anything that I didn't need. It was easy to sew, had no zippers or buttons, was pullover and very comfortable to wear. I'm planning on using this pattern many times. I made a few alterations to the pattern. As I am tall and long waisted, I dropped the waistline insert and back ties an inch or so. I also used bias binding instead of facing for the neckline. As I usually don't make changes to the patterns I sew, this was very brave of me.  The fabric is a crinkled blue polyester (that does need lots of Static Guard (TM) when wearing). I got the fabric on sale from $10/yard down to $2/yard when our Joann Fabrics went out of business. This is a 2009 pattern and is currently available for purchase.

Vogue 2746

This is an absolutely astounding project made by a customer's Aunt Kathy for her daughter Megan's Prom gown. They used Vogue Pattern 2746 which is now out of print. The dress is made out of hand dyed silk Charmeuse with bead work (and matching beaded earrings, purse and bracelet!). Megan wanted the back straps different and so that was altered. One of the many amazing things about this dress was it was made by the aunt in Las Vegas and was delivered to Megan in California 2 weeks prior to the prom! Congratulations Aunt Kathy on a superb job and to Megan and her mom Kelly for having such a creative seamstress in the family. The pictures show Megan with her Aunt Kathy, the maker of the dress, the back detail which was an alteration from the pattern and Megan and her date. Thanks so much for sharing these photos!
